London Day 1

What we didn't realize when we booked this trip was that our first weekend in London would be the queen's diamond jubilee. It marks 60 years on the throne. Amazing! And our day was centered around the celebration.

We started the day taking the tube (which I love) down to the battersea bridge to get ready to watch the fleet of boats sail along the Thames. Our dad's friend Adrien told is it is just like medieval times with the monarch
sailing down the river. It was madness down by the river and we decided to walk around until 2pm - when it was scheduled to start - instead of standing around for 4 hours.

Large picture hanging off building on the river.
This walk gave a nice introduction to London, but it exhausted us. We walked from the battersea bridge all the way to the London Bridge and elsewhere. We did finally stop to watch a big screen nearby with live footage of the boat. We saw Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Will & Kate, and Harry! So cool! It was interesting to be a part of this because everyone has such pride and respect for this family. We have nothing like it at home and we felt lucky to experience this with what seemed like every citizen of London.
After this we walked for another hour, realized we couldn't keep going, got dinner and headed back to the hostel. All in all a good start to our week in London. Can't wait for tomorrow already!

  1. Hey girls...love the sign thanks! Hope you were able to watch the fireworks over Buckingham Palace-the news photos looked spectacular. How fun that you just happen to be there during the jubilee. It's something you will tell your grandkids about even though you are not British! Bring back some goofy souvenirs:)
Stay safe and keep having fun! Love ya Mom XXOO

  2. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just read all the blog entries thus far and I AM SO JEALOUS! It seems amazing. I miss you! I am sure you are just having the freaking time of your life...buttface :P Anywho, Maggie, just food for thought here....when we go backpacking again in the future, keep this in mind, by that time I will have progressed so far in my acting training that I will have perfected my british accent/gingerness and therefore will be able to pass for a long lost cousin....just saying. It shall be done. ;) LOVE YOU!

    1. And by long lost cousin, I mean Prince Harry's long lost cousin...and isn't that who is next to rule England?? Pretty sure I read that somewhere...
